High-efficiency directly modulated lasers delivering compact, cost-effective optical sources for 100G, 50G, and 25G connectivity.
Lumentum’s directly modulated lasers (DMLs) provide efficient, compact, and cost-optimized optical sources for 100G, 25G, and 50G short- and medium-reach single-mode links used in data center, access, and aggregation networks. Built on our proven indium phosphide (InP) distributed-feedback laser platform, these devices deliver high output power, excellent linearity, and GR-468-qualified reliability. The portfolio includes CWDM, LAN-WDM, TDM, and extended-temperature variants spanning 1270–1330 nm wavelengths. Lumentum DMLs are widely deployed in 100G CWDM4, LR4, and PSM4 QSFP28 optical transceivers, as well as 25G LR and BiDi SFP28 modules. Select 25G TDM and CWDM extended-temperature devices also support 50G PAM4 modulation, enabling migration to next-generation SFP56 LR and BiDi applications. Designed and manufactured in-house for volume scalability, these DMLs combine simplicity, low power per bit, and proven reliability to deliver energy-efficient optical performance for the evolving needs of AI, cloud, and telecom infrastructure.
