Driving Continuous Improvement Through Kaizen
Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning “change for the better.” This philosophy is at the heart of Lumentum’s execution model. We apply Kaizen thinking at every stage of the product lifecycle and within our business processes to achieve world-class quality, speed, and cost.

During the design phase, we leverage Kaizen principles to further enhance our robust designs. By combining deep production knowledge with design excellence, we ensure that our products meet all customer requirements while maintaining the highest quality and lowest total cost.

As design progresses toward production, we use Kaizen to optimize our manufacturing processes. Product development and operations teams collaborate closely to integrate manufacturing feedback into both product and process design, ensuring smooth transitions and reliable performance from day one.

After a product is released, our focus on continuous improvement continues. We hold Kaizen events to improve existing processes and work toward zero defects and safety incidents. Lessons learned through Kaizen are applied to the next design cycle, enabling generation-over-generation improvements in both product and process performance.
