Our Sustainability Vision

Light enables human connection and allows systems to thrive. We aim to emulate the properties of light, as it lies at the core of all our innovations. Our solutions enable a broad range of end-user applications across the cloud and networking and industrial tech markets. All are shaping the way people connect, create, and interact.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals

Lumentum recognizes the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its heart. 

We believe these goals will lead our world to the brighter future we envision. We have aligned our reporting with seven of the 17 Goals which we can most deeply impact and that are relevant to our business. See our Corporate Sustainability Report’s SDG Index for more information. 

Sustainability Governance

Our Board of Directors provides oversight of Lumentum’s strategy and approach to sustainability, including the management of impacts on the environment. Our dedicated Sustainability Team actively engages with departmental leads across the company to communicate and implement sustainability-related initiatives. The Sustainability Team is responsible for determining the relevance of emerging topics, developing associated action plans, and disseminating information related to sustainability at Lumentum to respective departments. This cross-functional collaboration spans Environment, Health, and Safety; Human Resources; Legal; Operations; Quality; Supply Chain; and Business Platforms and supports the identification and management of our most material sustainability topics. Department leads collaborate with the Sustainability Team to assess emerging topics and develop action plans. The Sustainability Team is also responsible for communicating sustainability priorities throughout the company.
 
The Senior Director of Sustainability provides quarterly updates to the CEO and the Board of Directors on progress, challenges, and key initiatives. These regular updates serve as a mechanism for the highest governance body to review the effectiveness of our sustainability efforts and ensure alignment with our strategic priorities. The Governance Committee of the Board is responsible for overseeing the policies and programs that support Lumentum’s sustainability strategy.

In FY25, executive compensation remained linked to the achievement of key sustainability objectives, including the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Value Chain and Boundaries

Mapping our value chain enables us to better locate, understand, and manage the material topics that we control or influence.

We maintain direct control of our manufacturing operations and the global support services that are essential for our business to thrive. Outside of our direct control, we maintain strong relationships with our suppliers, contract manufacturers and customers. We work closely with suppliers and contract manufacturers to procure materials and products to specifications. Vendor relationships are critical to ensure product quality and promote ethical and responsible sourcing throughout our supply chain. Finally, our products are integrated into larger systems by our customers and delivered to end users, where we aim to influence responsible use and treatment.
