  1. Counter/Co-Propagating Raman
    Amplifiers Our Raman amplifiers leverage internally developed, state-of-the-art 14xx pump lasers, internally developed intelligent algorithms for autonomous gain control, and robust safety features to deliver network-ready solutions. Key points of differentiation include market-leading metrics on power consumption (<45 W to support Raman gains in excess of 14 dB on SMF), high output power (900mW – 1200 mW), gain control accuracy, and density.
  2. Preamp and Postamp EDFAs 
    Lumentum has a suite of customizable preamp and postamp EDFA solutions to meet all amplification needs—whether at a ROADM node or at an in-line amplifier (ILA) node. Fixed-gain, variable-gain, and switchable-gain versions at varying output power levels and noise figure metrics are available that are commensurate with the cost and performance requirements of the application. All of our EDFA solutions are built around our internal high-power 980 nm pump lasers and offer our industry-leading automatic gain control with fast transient suppression as a core feature. Over 200,000 Lumentum-designed EDFAs have been deployed in DCI, meshed ROADM, and high-capacity long-haul networks.
  3. Raman/EDFA Hybrid Amplifiers 
    Our Raman/EDFA hybrid amplifiers combine Raman’s low effective noise figure with EDFA’s high output power to provide a high-OSNR solution suitable for high bit-rate long-haul applications. An integrated approach to the Raman/EDFA design optimizes spectral flatness and control flexibility to extract the best possible OSNR performance across a diverse range of fiber spans.

  4. High-Power EDFAs 
    Lumentum EDFAs support up to 25 dBm output power for point applications that are less sensitive to nonlinear penalties. Our high-power EDFA solutions are based on conventional 980 nm pump technologies, and leverage our internally developed, industry-leading 900 mW pump lasers.
  5. Switchable-Gain EDFAs 
    We have the broadest portfolio of switchable-gain EDFAs in the industry, with the largest number of network deployments to date. Switchable-gain EDFAs extend the benefits of variable-gain EDFAs a step further and enables using a single EDFA model across a wide range of fiber-span loss distributions in the network. A single switchable-gain EDFA performs equally compared to multiple variable-gain EDFAs, each of which operates over a narrower gain range as shown below. The most compelling benefits of switchable-gain EDFAs for NEMs and network operators are operational simplicity and inventory sparing.
  6. L-Band Amplifiers 
    Lumentum offers L-band amplifiers (EDFAs and Raman) for geography-specific applications and fiber-scarce applications. The design approach to L-band and C+L band amplifiers differs from that of C-band amplifiers. Here again, Lumentum’s rich history of L-band amplifier designs and expertise offers customers the comfort and confidence of a trusted, turnkey solution.
  7. Compact EDFA Arrays 
    EDFA arrays — multiple parallel instances of the same amplifier in a co-located physical package – are an essential component for compensating loss within colorless, directionless, and contentionless (CDC) ROADM nodes. The attributes for EDFA arrays differ from that of in-line amplifiers because EDFA arrays typically operate at a fixed-gain and support a subset of the full complement of coherent DWDM channels depending on the add/drop architecture at the node. Lumentum offers arrays of 8 EDFAs (4 on add path, 4 on drop path), each gain-flattened and capable of supporting up to a maximum of 16 wavelengths across the entire C-band. A compact form factor, low power dissipation, and low cost are the primary hallmarks of Lumentum EDFA arrays.
  8. Single-Channel Small Form Factor (SFF) Amplifiers 
    Lumentum offers single-channel SFF EDFA gain blocks and modules for space- and power-constrained transponder linecards. Equipped with an uncooled pump laser, our SFF amplifier lets transponder card designers maximize the use of their board space for high-speed electro-optic components.
